Message From Teresa Gingrave

Dear Joel Families,

As we enter November, we are excited to focus on appreciation, kindness, and community at Joel Elementary! Throughout November, we will be celebrating **Gratitude Month**. Students and staff will engage in activities focused on reflecting on what they are thankful for, sharing appreciation with one another, and practicing everyday mindfulness. We encourage you to join us at home by taking a moment each day to reflect on what your family is thankful for. Keep an eye out for updates and classroom activities highlighting our gratitude theme throughout November.

Additionally, we will be highlighting **World Kindness Day** on November 13th! We encourage our students to spread positivity through small acts of kindness both in school and at home.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us foster a warm, caring school environment.

Each year, the district is required to notify families of certain policies and procedures.  Those can be viewed by clicking here.

Food Drive: We are excited to announce our upcoming Food Drive happening from November 9th through November 20th!  During these two weeks, Joel School will be collecting a list of items by grade level to support families within our school community as well as our local food pantry.  Your generous donations help ensure that all of our families have access to the meals they need. Students can bring these items in the morning and drop them off in the box nearest to their classroom.

Dress UP Day: Dress Up Day was a great success! Thanks to all the families who joined us.

Our Veterans Day Joel Assembly is taking place on Wednesday, November 11th at 2:15.   Please complete this form by Monday, November 9th if you and/or a member of your family is a Veteran or on Active Duty and would like to be an honored guest at our Veterans Day Assembly.

National School Psychologist Week: Next week, we are excited to celebrate National School Psychology Week and recognize the three incredible school psychologists at Joel: Ms. Meehan, Mrs. Hicks, and Mrs. Serino.  We also acknowledge our school psychologist intern, Ms. Goff.

School psychologists play a vital role in supporting our students' academic success, mental health, and overall well-being. They work closely with students, teachers, and families to foster safe, positive, and supportive learning environments. From providing direct support and interventions to collaborating on individualized learning strategies, their dedication ensures our students have the tools and resources they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Please join us next week in thanking our wonderful school psychologists for all that they do for our school community!

Upcoming Seasonal Events: Spirit Days are here!  Check the schedule of spirit events.

Have a great weekend!

REPORT FROM OUR CLASSROOM

Grade 1 Update:

As students completed Module 1 of English Language Arts, they brought their classroom tools and habits of character to life. It was clear how thoughtfully they applied their learning from Units 1 and 2—drawing on their understanding of tools from Ann Morris's *Tools* to select and design their floats for a specific purpose, choosing the right instruments for the job, and demonstrating the perseverance and planning of the young inventor in *The Most Magnificent Thing*.

The way students collaborated in small groups to plan, create, revise, and ultimately design their float addressed the unit's guiding question: "How do we create a magnificent thing?"

Thank you to the Grade 1 team for their hard work, creativity, and commitment to capturing their students’ thinking, which was shared in the kindergarten hallway during their float parade!

Grade 2 Update: Grade 2 visited the Eli Whitney Museum on Wednesday.  Students enjoyed the trip and represented Joel School very well.  Thanks, FOJ, for supporting this experience for our students.
