    Unit 1

    Write a short, constructed response to a text.

    Answer questions about a literary text using selected response and short constructed response.

    Use strategies to read informational text and answer selected responses and complete short constructed response.

    Read, compare and contrast, and create a videobook of stories. Answer questions using selected response and short constructed responses.

    Unit 2

    After doing a close reading, write about schools around the world using a short constructed response and an extended written response.

    Answer questions about an informational text using selected response and short constructed response.

    Draft a new informational paragraph in two parts using scaffolded writing.

    Read and write opinion text. Then answer selected response, short constructed response, and scaffolded writing.

    Unit 3

    Respond to text through speaking and listening in small collaborative conversation groups.

    Write a narrative about a text using scaffolded writing.

    Complete oral presentations.

    Complete an oral presentation on habits of character.

    Bridges in Mathematics

    Overview: Bridges in Mathematics is a comprehensive K-5 mathematics program that equips teachers to fully implement the common core state standards in a manner that is rigorous, coherent, engaging, and accessible to all learners. The curriculum focuses on developing students’ deep understanding of mathematical concepts, proficiency with key skills, and ability to solve complex and novel problems. Bridges blends direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration. The program taps into the intelligence and strengths of all students by presenting material that is as linguistically, visually, and kinesthetically rich as it is mathematically powerful.

    Number Corner

    Number Corner is a program of skills practice as well as ongoing encounters with broader mathematical concepts. It features daily 20-minute workouts that introduce, reinforce, and extend skill and concepts related to the critical areas of study at each grade level.

    First Grade workouts include: Calendar Grid, Calendar Collector, Days in School, Computational Fluency, and Number Line.

     

  • Programs used in Grade 2: 

    Mystery Science

    Mystery Science is an innovative, standard-aligned, hands-on curriculum that teaches children how to think like scientists. Phenomena-driven instruction helps kids to better understand and communicate about the world around them through writing, discussion, and exploration.

    Units of Study in First Grade include: Animal Traits & Survival, Plant Traits & Survival, Day and Night Patterns, and Light, Sound & Communication.

     

  • Second grade students participate in embedded Social Studies lessons through our EL Education language arts curriculum and supplemental Scholastic News articles.
