    Unit 1

    Students respond to text through thinking and speaking about Illustrations. Students select responses with visuals and use partner discussions.

    Students independent write

    about weather using a short, constructed response with drawing and writing.

    Students read and answer questions about an

    informational text by selecting responses and writing a short, constructed response with drawing and writing.

    Students compare and contrast characters from a text through a short, constructed response with drawing and writing and small group discussions.

    Unit 2

    Students use scaffolded writing to write about the classroom toys they prefer.

    Students identify story elements in text by writing a short,constructed response with drawing and writing.

    Students research and write about how animals depend on trees through scaffolded writing.

    Students will learn about an

    Author’s point and writing opinions. They will answer selected response questions and complete a scaffolded writing piece.

    Unit 3

    Students work on speaking and listening standards by interviewing a classmate about afFavorite classroom toy.

    Students reflect on a text in a small group structured discussion.

    Students discuss the needs of living things through a series of small group Science Talks.

    Students will add ideas to their writing with detailed drawings and writing with partner discussion

    Unit 1

    Students listen to a focused read-aloud and write about tools using a picture sort, speaking and listening, and writing a short constructed response.

    Students read and answering questions about a text using drawing and short constructed responses.

    Students read informational text about birds and answer using selected responses and short constructed writing.

    Students compare and contrast two texts and answer questions using selected responses and short constructed responses.
    Unit 2 Students listen to a focused read-aloud, answer questions through selected responses, and write about habits of character in a short constructed response.

    Students discuss an observable patterns in the sky.

    Students use informative Writing about birds’ body parts and how they help birds to survive through scaffolded writing.

    Students write an opinion piece of writing using scaffolded writing.
    Unit 3

    Students write to show understanding by describing a habit of character through a scaffolded writing assignment.

    Students use observations of the sun to write a narrative poem using scaffolded writing

    Students respond to text by thinking about Illustrations and discussing the topic in small groups.

    Students identify reasons people need birds by answering  selected responses and writing short constructed responses.
