Bucket Filling at Joel

Bucket Filling at Joel

Here at Joel, we support Bucket Filling daily by recognizing students who are bucket fillers. Each classroom has a bucket in which good deeds are collected to be read during announcements. Town meetings reinforce this message through presentations and grade-level activities.

Bucket filling is a school climate initiative that reinforces positive behavior and strengthens emotional well-being through identifying acts of kindness and respect. A Bucket Filler, is someone who uses kind words and actions to others. Even saying please and thank you can show Bucket Filling. We all want to be Bucket Fillers, not Bucket Dippers.

Using the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today by Carol McCloud, students are taught that everyone carries an invisible bucket that can be filled throughout the day by positive behaviors and acts of kindness. A full bucket brings happiness, optimism, and positive self-esteem.

When we do or say mean things, we are "bucket dipping" and taking away from other's happiness.
